HCARC - RMS
The Hill Country Amateur Radio Club has installed a 2-meter packet Radio Messaging System. This system will allow you to send and receive radio e-mail both two and from the Internet. Our system consists of two stations, one located at the Red Cross club station, and the other at a remote location.
VHF users can access N5HR (the message bulletin board), N5HR-7 (the KA node), and N5HR-10 (the Radio Messaging System) all on 146.09 Mhz FM 1200-baud packet. HF users can access the system on 7.0867 Mhz USB packet with 1400/1600 mark/space tones.
All users are encouraged to use a terminal program such as “Airmail”, or “Paclink” to access the RMS but any terminal program can be used to access and communicate with other packet stations on VHF or HF. Both “Airmail” and “Paclink” are free downloads from the internet, and may be configured with the “AGWPE” packet engine for sound card packet, eliminating the need for a TNC.
Users can type “help” at the command prompt at N5HR or N5HR-7 and get a listing of the commands available, and what they do.
HF users will have to “X” to N5HR-10 to access the RMS. You are limited in the commands you can do from the HF side. Type “help” at the winlink command prompt for details on the commands.
For more information on what its all about go to www.winlink.org. This is a global messaging system. Please use text only messages when using the RMS. No attachments or HTML type messages. Those violating this principal will be locked out of the system.
More information to follow in the future. Have fun with packet, an error free digital communications mode.
